Black Cabs: Where Is the Heathrow Taxi Rank?
London black cabs stop at the taxi ranks outside each Heathrow terminal. Follow the "Taxis" signs from arrivals and join the queue. Heathrow's interactive airport map shows the exact rank at each terminal.
- No booking: useful if your plans change or you land unexpectedly.
- Licensed drivers: every black cab driver is licensed and has passed the Knowledge of London exam.
- Wheelchair access: all London black cabs are wheelchair accessible.
- Metered fare: the price depends on distance, time and traffic, so you won't know the total until you arrive. TfL publishes the current taxi tariffs.
- Queues: when several flights land together, the queue can be long.
Uber and Minicab Pick-Up at Heathrow
Uber, minicabs and other private hire cars must be booked, can't use the black cab ranks, and can't pick up on Heathrow's terminal forecourts. Heathrow says Uber riders meet their driver on foot in their terminal's designated Terminal Parking car park.
At Terminals 2, 3 and 5 that means the Terminal Parking car park, about a 2-minute walk from the terminal doors. At Terminal 4, where the multi-storey car park has closed for redevelopment, app cars and minicabs use the Priority Pick-Up Area or Park & Ride Zone A. Your app or driver confirms the exact meeting point.
Heathrow's on-site car service
Heathrow also has its own licensed, fully electric car service, WeKnow, with service desks in the arrivals hall at every terminal and fixed rates. You can book it at the desk when you land.

Taxi or Train from Heathrow?
If you're heading into central London with light luggage, the train can be quicker at busy times:
- Heathrow Express: non-stop to Paddington in 15 minutes from Heathrow Central (Terminals 2 and 3), or 21 minutes from Terminal 5.
- Elizabeth line: direct through central London, with more stops than the Heathrow Express.
- Piccadilly line: the slowest option, with stops all the way into London.
